What is Sheet.chat?

Sheet.chat is a Slack app to connect to Google Sheets documents, also known as spreadsheets. In a Slack channel or in private discussions, users can:

  • get notifications about changes
  • search for existing records in spreadsheets
  • add new rows in a spreadsheet via a form

Slack already has a native integration with Google documents. How is Sheet.chat different?

Slack has a native Google Drive app that provides previews for links and notifications about newly shared files and requests for access. Sheet.chat, on the other hand, works with spreadsheets and offers more advanced features related to their content. You should use both in tandem.

Can I share Sheet.chat features with my colleagues?

Yes. All users of a Slack workspace have access to Sheet.chat features once the setup is completed. There is no price per user.

What is the setup process?

At least one member of a Slack workspace needs to sign-in with Slack on the Sheet.chat website, and then connect a Google Account and configure the spreadsheets to use. Then, anyone can use Sheet.chat in the workspace.

What is an "update"?

Sheet.chat regularly takes an update of your spreadsheets' data (only the spreadsheets that you connect on the service). The updates are used for two purposes:

  • we compare the data to the previous update and send out notifications when there is a change in the spreadsheet (if you configured a Slack channel for the notifications),
  • we keep a copy of the data (cache) that we use to perform the search.

Depending on your pricing plans, the updates happen every day, every hour, every 30 min or every 15 min at the maximum.

Manual updates can be triggered when you want to test your configuration, clicking on the button "update data now".

What are "custom search results"?

You can configure the maximum number of results (1 result = 1 row of your spreadsheet) to display in Slack (default is 3), and the columns to display (default is all).

What payment options do I have?

Credits cards or Paypal.

We use the online reseller Paddle.com to take care of all the processing of payments.

What currencies can I pay in?

Paddle accepts payments in a wide range of currencies. Check their website.

Can I cancel my subscription at anytime?

Absolutely. There's no penalty or hassling process. Just a button to click in Settings, then Subscription. Or, drop us a message.

What data is accessed by Sheet.chat?

Sheet.chat needs access to spreadsheets data for notifications and search capabilities. It relies on Google Sheets API v4 with the OAuth 2.0 protocol using the scope "spreadsheets". Sheet.chat can only see or edit the spreadsheets you provide on the service, it cannot see or manage all the other Google Drive files.

On Slack's side, the service will access the meta information about the users who sign in and the list of channels. Sheet.chat cannot read your Slack messages. Your conversations remain private.

Who develops this?

Sheet.chat is created and maintained by Jeremy Greze as a side-project.
